Biography

Dr. Efe Precious Onakpojeruo is a biomedical data scientist, biomedical engineer, and artificial intelligence researcher. His work covers biomedical data analytics, machine learning, medical imaging, translational oncology, and decision support systems for clinicians.

He took his bachelor's degree at Delta State University in Nigeria, then won a scholarship to complete his master's and his first PhD in biomedical engineering at Near East University. He was appointed assistant professor after his doctorate, and later worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Operational Research Center in Healthcare, leading research that put artificial intelligence to work on clinical problems.

He has also worked on the CMS Experiment at CERN in Geneva, contributing to the High Granularity Calorimeter upgrade through detector development, optical fibre systems, quality assurance, and AI-driven analysis. His publication record runs to more than 40 peer-reviewed papers and over 500 citations across medical artificial intelligence, cancer diagnostics, healthcare analytics, and radiation sciences.

He is currently a researcher at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California. His work there is a nano-boron drug delivery platform for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, aimed at Diffuse Midline Glioma, one of the most aggressive paediatric brain tumours. The hard part is targeting: engineering nanocarriers that deliver a high concentration of boron to tumour cells and very little anywhere else, so the therapy is more precise without doing more damage to the tissue around it.
